Weekend Updates and Gossip/Rumors!

March 30, 2007
Hi Everyone:

Thought I'd do a little "to do" list of suggestions of
for the weekend.

(Click on the movie titles below to
see the trailers on youtube!)

Film: BLADES OF GLORY is starting today with Will
Ferrell, Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Will Arnett
and Amy Poehler (both from SNL). There are also
cameos by the likes of Nancy Kerrigan and Scott
Hamilton. It really looks hysterical!!!

DVD:

Out this week is BLOOD DIAMOND
with Leo DiCaprio.

Also, CASINO ROYALE came out a
few weekends ago. It you haven't
seen it and love ACTION flicks,
it is awesome.
Daniel Craig IS the new James Bond!

Daniel Craig as James Bond
One more: CHILDREN OF MEN with
Clive Owen (who a lot of people
thought would be the new James
Bond)! Very intense movie.

TV: Fox announced returning shows. HELL'S KITCHEN
returns 6/4. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE returns for
another season on 5/24. Also, I read that 'rumor has
it' LOST may not start until next January when it does
return and go straight thru until May...just like '24'
and that premise has certainly worked for that show!
HBO: The Sopranos returns for the first of it's last
9 episodes of April 8th (Easter Sunday!). Catch up on
HBOs 12 minutes recap show. It's the end of an era!
Sopranos
USA Networks just announced new/returning series for
this coming summer. Returning are: MONK, PSYCH,
4400, The Dead Zone and WWE Raw. - New: The Starter
Wife, mini-series, starring Debra Messing (of Will and
Grace). In a nutshell, it is the story of a divorced
wife of a Hollywood exec. It is exec. produced by
Gigi GRAZER (ex-wife of Brian?). It's worth a try.
Another series called BURN NOTICE starring Jeff
Donovan (of Touching Evil) and the ever-whacko Bruce
Campbell starts on June 28. That's all I wrote on
this one so I'll have more later.

GOSSIP: Jennifer (Oscar Winner) Hudson's next flick
could be playing Forrest (Oscar Winner) Whitaker's
daughter in WINGED CREATURES. Other stars are Dakota
Fanning, Kate Beckinsale, Guy Pierce, etc. The story
follows the witnesses of a brutal murder/suicide in a
fast food restaurant as they each cope with the
aftermath. No Start Date on filming as yet.

On a 'local note', did you read that Mark Wahlberg and
Matt Damon (both Boston boys!) will star in The
Fighter which is the story of Lowell's own Micky Ward
and his brother Dickie Eklund. Let's hope this movie
gets off the ground!!!

That's it. Everyone have a great weekend. Talk to
you next week.

Wed. 3/28 AI Results Show

March 29, 2007
Good Morning Everyone:

It gets harder and harder to 'throw a spin' on this
show each week lately. It's been a disappointing
season. No 'standouts' to speak of. Melinda is
probably the only consistent one. That said, here are
last night's results:

First of all, I LOVED Ryan coming out with Sunjaya's
fauxhawk!!! It was very funny. (click here to see a
clip of Ryan in his tall fauxhawk)
(For what the heck a fauxhawk is click here)
OK, also last week I pick 3 and they have 2. This
week I pick 2 and they have 3. Very confusing!

First up: Blake - OK

Next up: LaKisha - OK

Then came: Phil - whoops, Bottom 3 Phil

Fourth: Melinda - OK (everyone has to keep
voting!)

Fifth: Chris R. - OK

Sixth: Sunjaya - OK (I'm not even going to
comment!)

Seventh: Haley - Bottom 3 - I'm surprised

Eighth: Jordin - OK

Ninth: Chris S. - Bottom 3 (we predicted this)

Gwen Stefani and Akorn sang 'The Sweet Escape' (<-click
here to watch the performance on youtube!).
(I didn't realize how short Ryan was until
seeing him beside Gwen... unless she's a tall person!)

OK, without further ado - the person going home this
week is...drum roll please....Chris Sligh. It's a
pity because I liked Chris. Great personality and not
a bad voice. This is definitely becoming no more than
a 'popularity' contest instead of a SINGING
competition. (click here to see Chris' elimination and
tribute on youtube)
Too bad.

tony bennett

Next week: TONY BENNETT
(I'll be singing away on
the couch again)

Also, starting Wed., April 11th the Results Show will
go to a full hour (I sound like Larry King) because
the half hour isn't torture enough!!!
-------------------------------------------------------
On a lighter note, don't you just love the new Gap ad
with Claire Danes and Broadway Star Patrick Wilson
dancing to "Anything You Can Do" by Ethel Merman?
Lots of fun!!!

See you next week.

AI Review – Tue. Nite – 3/27/07

March 28, 2007
Hi Everyone:

We had a 'touch of Spring' yesterday but I don't put
my scraper away until May!!!

Last Night:
Gwen Stefani
We had Gwen Stefani mentoring the 10 finalists. I
wasn't sure if I would like her but, as it turns out,
she was very nice and a lot prettier than her videos.

First up:

1. LaKisha - sang Last Dance (<-click here to watch
on youtube!) by Donna Summer -
This would turn out to be a Donna 'lovefest' but we didn't
know it just yet. LaKisha had an Asian looking outfit
on. At first I thought it was just a shirt and it
became a dress as the cameras panned out. Would have
been better as a shirt and black pants. Whoa! Did you
see those boots? OK, enough about the outfit (hair
was good too). Her singing was great and she got us
off to a lively start. As we all know Donna Summer
came from the Boston area so it was good to hear one
of her songs! See you next week KiKi.

2. Chris S. - sang Every Little Thing She Does is
Magic (<-click here to watch on youtube!) by The Police
- Now I noticed when Ryan was interviewing Chris
before the song that his voice sounded a little raspy.
Unfortunately that carried over to the vocal. I
noticed that he 'rushed' the song too and he seemed
a little tired. Not a great job this week.
I'm thinking Bottom 2.

3. Gina - sang I'll Stand By You (<-click here to
watch on youtube!) by Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders
(by the way...for all you 'old' folk, did you know
that Chrissie Hynde was married to one of The Kinks
and also the lead singer of Simple Minds?...just a
little trivia for ya). Gina LOVES Gwen and was thrilled
just to be in the same room with her. She's definitely
the 'rocker' of the finalists this year. She looked
hot and sang well. Good choice for her to sing.
CYA next week Gina. By the way, again with the boots!

4. Sunjaya - sang(???) Bath Water (<-click here to
watch on youtube!) by No Doubt
DO WE HAVE TO COMMENT ON THIS???? The 'fauxhawk' was
beyond belief. All I can say is...if he had 40
seconds to sing a song, he'd be OK. Beyond that, he
completely falls apart. As Simon said, "What else can
be said???" Ryan called it ENTERTAINMENT!

5. Haley - sang True Colors (<-click here to
watch on youtube!)by Cyndi Lauper
Not a big Cyndi fan. Haley looked gorgeous (what a
pair of legs she has!) but she just didn't do
anything for me last night. It was kinda boring.
I see you in the Bottom 2 Haley.

6. Phil - sang Every Breath You Take (<-click here
to watch on youtube!) by The Police
I haven't been a big fan of Phil's the last few weeks
(in fact I thought his Tobacco Road from last week
wasa awful) but he really sounded good last night. I
don't know what the hair and makeup people are doing
to these kids (eyebrows?). Anyway, he should
definitely make it thru to next week.

7. Melinda - sang Heaven Knows (<-click here to watch
on youtube!) by...guess who... Donna Summer.
She had a 70s looking outfit on but it didn't
really suit her. That said, the song was great as is
Melinda and she certainly entertained us.

8. Blake - sang Lovesong (<-click here to watch
on youtube!)by The Cure
Blake surprised us by combing his hair down this week.
Not that it matters cause he sounded good. No be
bops, dancing, jiving...just Blake. He pulled it off
and, even though I don't agree with Simon that he is
the best of the guys, I think the jury is still out on
'who's the best' but he'll be back again next week.

9. Jordin - sang Hey Baby (<-click here to watch
on youtube!)by Gwen Stefani
- The last few weeks Jordin has really come into her
own and done a great job. I thought her outfit was
cute (looked like a Gwen design). She's gonna be
around for awhile. I see her taking Stephanie's
place now that she has been voted off.

10. Chris R. - sang Don't Speak (<-click here to watch
on youtube!)by No Doubt
- First of all...when are we going to hear him sing
a Justin Timberlake song??? He was very good last night.
I, along with the judges, notice that his voice doesn't
stay strong during the whole song. He's got to work
on that and he'll be fine.

OK...so I see Haley and Chris S. in the Bottom 2
tonight. - Talk to you later in the week.

Joanie

For those of you who watch Dancing With The Stars

1. Apolo and Julianne - can't believe she's only 18.
Did a great job. Received a total of 47

2. Shandi and Brian - gorgeous girl but not very
coordinated and I can't warm up to Brian. Going home?
Received a total of 39

3. Clyde and Elana - Poor Clyde - nice guy but he's
got a lot going against him. Can't see him staying
around for too long. Received a total of 34

4. Leeza and Tony (LOVE Tony) - Tony is such a
gentleman and knows his partner's limitations. He was
very kind and patient with Leeza and that's why I see
her staying around for awhile. Received total 36

5. Ian and Cheryl - OK, here's 2 time winner Cheryl
and don't you know, she's got another guy who she can
work with here. She's a wonderful teacher and they'll
go far in this competition. Received total 43

6. Paulina and Alec - Now Alec is the winner, along
with Kelly Monaco (Sam/GH) from the first season. I
don't know how far he will go this year though.
Paulina is a lovely girl but she just doesn't have
much dancing talent and stiffens up a lot. (once
again, where's Ric Ocasek?) Received total 40

7. Billy Ray and Karina - Whoa....Billy Ray! You
certainly kicked it up a notch this week. Good Job.
Received total 34

8. Heather and Jonathan - OK, I along with most of us
wanted to see Heather not do too well but, then again,
she hasn't taken $56M from any of us and if Paul can
call and send her flowers and wish her well, why can't
we? And, you know what, she's GOOD. When she did
that back flip, I think the whole audience gasped.
She's not afraid to take risks. I see her moving
right along. Received total 42

9. John and Edyta - They are a cute couple (always
liked him as Cliff on Cheers) and they try really
hard. It was fun to watch. Received total 38

10. Layla and Max - Now we know what an 'ego trip'
Max is always on but I think Layla is bringing him
down a few notches. She works very well with him and
they are definitely a front runner here. Love the
fact that Layla is not your usual Size 2! She's a
beautiful girl and has the right attitude. We could
see her in the finals. Received total 50

11. Joey and Kim - Joey just cracks me up. Last week
he had FATONE on the back of his jacket. This week he
has J and F glittered on the bottom of his tux. AND
he can dance. Very enjoyable. Received total 48

Soooo, the bottom 2 were Shandi and Brian and Paulina
and Alec and it was PAULINA AND ALEC who went home.
Don't agree with it but it's who the audience chose.

CYA next week with Dancing!

3/23-25 Weekend Brief

March 26, 2007
Hi Everyone:

Just thought I'd give you a little news/gossip from
this past weekend.

TV:
Those of you who follow PRISON BREAK will be glad to
know that it has been renewed for another year. First
they're in prison, then they're out...who knows what
next year will bring!

Also, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA has been picked up for a
new FULL season.

If you subscribe to SHOWTIME, this past weekend
they had, ON DEMAND, the first 2 episodes of the new
series THE TUDORS (<-click here to watch the trailer
on youtube!) which will start on the regular
schedule next week. It certainly gives you a
different slant on Henry VIII. Jonathan Rhys Meyers
is one hot dude!!! Click on...you'll enjoy it.
SHOWTIME was very smart to do this. They did the same
with DEXTER and BROTHERHOOD and they both became hits.

MOVIES:
I heard on the news this morning that there will be a
LIBERACE movie and you'll never guess who is playing
the lead....none other than George Clooney!!! I guess
Robin Williams was also in the running but they chose
George. Should be interesting.

I saw REIGN OVER ME (<-click here to watch the trailer
on youtube!) yesterday and I have to say it is one
of the best movies I have seen in a while.
A lot of comedians can not 'pull off' a serious (Jim
Carrey do you hear me?) however, Adam Sandler is
excellent. Don Cheadle is terrific as his college
friend from years ago who happens to bump into him.
Adam's character, Charlie Weinstein, lost his family
in 9/11 and has been coping with it ever since. I
don't want to tell you too much because I highly
recommend that you see it.
Adam Sandler is donating any money he makes from this
movie (including his salary) to injured soldier who
come home from Iraq and their families.
Sandler and Cheadler in Reign Over Me
Jada Pinkett Smith, Robert Klein, Melinda Dillon
(remember her from A Christmas Story?), Liv Tyler all
give good performances and almost at the end you see
someone who is credited at the beginning of the movie
but you forget he was going to be in it...
Two Thumbs Up!!!!

Dancing With the Stars is on tonight. I tape it so
won't be giving my thoughts until the Wed. AI show.
Remember AI is on until 9:07 tomorrow night. Gwen
Stefani will be the guest.

Talk to you soon.

Wed. Nite Results Show

March 22, 2007

Hi Everyone:

Last night was far from a 'shocker' but it still would
have been a DECENT thing to do to send Sunjaya HOME!

Here's how it went:

First up: Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits came on
and sang... I'm so sorry, I'm drawing a blank. I
should have written it down. He was very good
though and is still not hard on the eyes even
after all these years!
Watch the performance on youtube here
OK, Ryan did the elimination in '3s'.

First Up: Phil/Melinda/Blake All Safe
(I was puzzled by Phil. I thought he'd be in the bottom '2'.
I was saying 3)

Then we moved on to: Chris S./LaKisha/Jordin All Safe
(no suprise there)

Then up stood: Sunjaya/Haley/Gina
Now this was a tough call because, even though Haley kicked
it up a notch last night; both Sunjaya and Gina weren't that
great.

GUESS WHAT AMERICA - All are SAFE!!!!
Then we had a song from LuLu. Her big hit:
'To Sir With Love' (click here to watch ot on youtube!)
- She looked beautiful (hey, it's great when you can afford a
little Botox!) and sounded a lot better than Diana Ross did
a week ago.

Peter and LuLu are both in their 60s and a lot better to look
at than those shows on PBS where they 'flash back' to the
Oldies!!!!

Just a comment.

Here We Go:

The bottom 2 were Chris Richardson and Stephanie Edwards
Now Chris was good the night before. Stephanie, however was not.
BUT it was only one night out of many that she didn't sound good.
Didn't matter cause Stephanie was voted OFF. Too bad.

I don't know what else to say about this Sunjaya kid.
It's heartbreaking that people's careers are being 'played with'.

Ohhh, that young girl that did all the crying? Well she was at
rehearsals on Tuesday and the producers watched her and put her
UP FRONT because of the crying. Can we all say 'MANIPULATION'?

Take care. Hope you like my blog. My son Jamie set it up and
I think it looks fantastic.

Talk to you next week.

Last Night – Mar. 20th – British Invasion of the 60s

March 21, 2007

Now I remember all of these songs from the 60s and also remember Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits and LuLu who sang, “To Sir With Love”. Did you also know that
she was married to Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees years ago?

A little trivia for ya.

First Up:

1. Haley – Sang – Tell Him -
Well Haley girl, it looks like you’ve finally come ‘into your own’ cause last night you not only looked great (Simon quote, “You naughty little thing”!) but you sounded great too. We’ll see ya next week.

2. Chris R. – Sang – Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying -
Now, the reason I like Chris (as well as Blake) is that they both try to ‘make the song their own’ by updating it a bit. Chris did this very wisely by not overdoing it. Good song. Voice is still not very strong though. Butttt, that said, who wouldn’t want to see him back next week????

3. Stephanie – Sang – You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me -
I like Stephanie but tonight she just didn’t do t for me. Her outfit was too much ‘Fantasia’ looking and the vocals weren’t strong. You need to really feel and belt out this song…which she didn’t. I doubt if she’s in danger but she had better do well next week!

4. Blake – Sang – Time Of The Season – (<-click here for video on youtube!)
Ohhhhh Blake. Now for anyone who has watched AI in the past, one year I was crazy about Constantine and last year Ace Young was kinda hot. Nobody’s really ‘rattling my cage’ this year but, if anyone could, it would be Blake. This kid is ‘hot’. As Paula said, “You can definitely put that song on your CD.” Randy and Simon both liked it. Again, a modern spin on a 60s song but he didn’t lose any of the meaning of it. Great Job Blake….see you next week. (By the way, what did you think of Ryan trying to do some moves???? No rhythm!)

5. LaKisha – Sang - Diamonds Are Forever - (<-click here for video on youtube!)
When I hear any of the James Bond songs all I can think of is the ‘naked girls with guns’ dancing around while they roll the credits! She did a fine job. Sounded just like Shirley Bassey which is a good thing. AND, I did like her outfit and LOVED the diamonds!!! And, like KiKi said to Simon, “If I look and sound this good 45 years from now, I’ll be happy with it!” Good for her. I noticed Simon smiled at the comment. He really likes her and well he should. Next week babe!

6. Phil – Sang – Tobacco Road -
OK Phil, here’s where you went wrong last night. You tried to sing ‘rock’ and it just didn’t happen. Were you trying to channel Bo Bice maybe? or Chris Daughtry??? Anyway, I wasn’t impressed Phil. As Simon said, “I think you are in danger tonight.” or something like that. I agree.

7. Jordin – Sang – I Who Have Nothing -
WOW this girl gets better and better every week and did she look cute last night. (by the way, I can NOT believe the rumor that she and Sunjaya are a COUPLE…friends yes,
couple no). She did an awesome job. You could feel the emotion of the song as she sang it too. Next week for you that’s for sure.

8.SunjayaSang?You Really Got Me -
As Simon said, “What more is there to say?” Now I think Randy and Paula went the nice route tonight, saying, “You improved yourself…didn’t sound bad..etc.” Maybe they are hoping people will NOT think he is the worst and vote for someone else. This has got to stop. Howard Stern and those websites that tell you to vote for the worst are playing with kids’ careers.

9. Gina - Sang – Paint It Black – (<-click here for video on youtube!)
I like Gina but she certainly didn’t sound like Mick Jagger to me last night. She’s got the ‘punk look’ but she almost screamed this song and her movements on stage were awkward….bottom 3 Gina? We’ll see.

10. Chris S. – Sang – She’s Not There -
I wish the makeup and hair people would leave these kids alone. Last week they darkened his hair and took the glasses off. Thankfully the glasses were back on last night. Chris is a lot of fun and he tried to work the audience as he moved across the stage. I’m hesitant to say it was great but I will say that I thought he was good and will definitely be back next week.

11. Melinda – Sang – As Long As He Needs Me -
OK Melinda…you got me crying again last night! That’s 2 weeks in a row. LOVE this song from Oliver. You certainly are the whole package and it is a joy to listen to you every week. AND….I think you ARE genuinely nice. As you said, “What you see if what
you get. I wish there was more.” You don’t need more Melinda…you are THE ONE!

OK…one last thought from last night. Will someone give that kid a valium who was balling her eyes out the whole show!!!! Give me a break. And then they bring her up on stage and I thought she was going to faint right then and there.

Bottom 3: Phil, Gina, Sunjaya

Who will go home is anyone’s guess
——————————————————

OK, here’s a little ‘bonus’ for ya. If you watched Dancing With The Stars the other night, I’ll give you a Joanie recap.

Ian and Cheryl – first up, not bad, they’ll be back Leeza and Tony – LOVE Tony he’s very polished and professional. Leeza tried. They’ll be back.

Joey and Kim – Joey is a riot. Lots of personality. Didn’t care for him in NSYNC, may have to change my mind. Next week….they’ll be back.

Layla and Max – She is much prettier than I thought and moved very well for a muscular girl. Max is teaching her well. They’ll be back next week.

Pauline and Alex – She’s just as pretty now as she was 20 odd years ago. I wonder if she’s still married to Ric Ocasek from The Cars??? Good Job – cya next week.

John R. and Edyta – At first I thought he would be the “Jerry Springer” of the group but he moved very well and pulled it off considering he had only 2 weeks of training.

Shandi and Brian – Didn’t care for this couple even though the guys did. Very pretty girl. Not graceful enough for me.

Clyde and Elena – Oh boy, are these 2 in trouble. Could be going home next week.

Heather and Jonathan – I fully intended to hate every move she made because of Paul but she did OK and will be back another week.

Apolo and Julianne – They did OK considering his work schedule. They’ll be back next week…cause he’s cute!

Billy Ray and Katrina - Boy were they pitiful. She danced with Mario last year and came in 2nd; this year could be last.
——————————————————

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Joanie
