Weekend To Do/Rumors, etc.

August 9, 2007

Hi:

Not too much going on this week but let’s see what I can come up with.

TV NEWS

Imagine’s Brian Grazer (who partners with Ron Howard) has signed on with Fox to do an FBI series. Imagine and 20th Century Fox who produce ‘24′ and ‘Shark’ (2 of my faves!) are behind the project. This is gonna be good!!!! – It’s based on an Iraq War Vet, Mike Cavanaugh, who has been asked to lead the Critical Incidents Response Group for the FBI. Mike’s character is based on a real life former FBI agent, John O’Neill who warned the agency, to no avail, of the dangers of al-Queda and quit when his warnings were ignored.

O’Neil began a new career as Security Director at the World Trade Center on Sept. 10, 2001 and was killed one day later when the planes hit the towers. Later, at his funeral, several women found out they had all been married to him! (sounds like they should do a show on his personal life!). Grazer wants to put it in ‘24′s’ timeslot in the fall and then move it in January when ‘24′ begins its new season.

Boston Legal
- will have a 90 minute premiere on Sept. 25th before moving to its usual one hour on Tuesdays.

Great TV News - Both Saving Grace (TNT) and Burn Notice (USA) have been given the go ahead for more episodes. Holly Hunter’s, Grace will have 15 more and Jeff Donovan’s, Burn is signed on for 13 more. Both really good shows – Very Excited!!!

For those of you who still watch, ABC has announced the new Bachelor.

Name: Brad Womack
Age: 34
Self-made entrepreneur (owns bars along with his brothers; now wants to start a hotel)
Time: Monday, Sept. 24th from 9:30 to 11
I’m sure we’ll be hearing allll about Brad before the premiere, ad nauseum!

DVDs

Elvis’s 30th anniversary of his death is coming up on the 16th so there have been a lot of DVDs released – digitally remastered, etc. One of my faves is VIVA LAS VEGAS which he did with Ann Margret (who he got along with VERY well!!!!) I understand after he made the movie with her, they remained very good friends and every time she played Vegas, he filled her room with flowers!!!!

Available on amazon:

Viva Las Vegas (Deluxe Edition)
Jailhouse Rock (Deluxe Edition)
Elvis – The ‘68 Comeback Special (Deluxe Edition DVD)

MOVIE NEWS

Anton Yelchin (who played Hank Azara’s son in HUFF on Showtime) has been chosen to play Chekov on the new STAR TREK XI movie. Story is believed to take place while the group were at the Starfleet Academy. Since everyone is YOUNG in this one…that would make sense!
Release Date: Christmas, 2008

“Grace Is Gone” – Just read about this one. It stars John Cusack as a father who takes his two daughters on a road trip, putting off the terrible news that their mother has been killed in Iraq serving our country. Rumor has it that when this movie was shown at one of the Festivals there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Clint Eastwood was one of those so moved by the story that he asked if he could compose the music soundtrack for it. His big passion, after directing. If all goes well, when this movie opens, late Fall, we could have a few Oscar contenders here….once again, Clint and could we hope that John finally gets an Oscar nod? (Although I’m not sure if he got a ‘nod’ for The Grifters?)

IN THEATERS

Becoming Jane (James McEvoy!!!!)

Daddy Day Camp (for the kids)

and…ongoing The Bourne Ultimatum which is grossing mucho bucks and has received rave reviews from everyone!!!

RUMOR

Only rumor I have at the moment, is that Kevin Federline is going back into court to ask for full custody of his two sons with “Trainwreck” Britney. Who didn’t see this one coming?????

OK, have a great weekend everyone…try and stay cool. Keep the ACs running and we’ll get together next week.

So You Think You Can Dance – Top 6 – 08/08/07

August 9, 2007

Goodaye Everyone:

Boy, most of the country is in the middle of a terrible heatwave. Hope it gets better soon. We here in the Boston area are going to be in the 70s today….it’s like Fall!!!

Here comes our Cat (I’ve really gotten to like her). Tonight she is wearing a gray/black/metallic shorty with her usual high heels!!! Hair down.

It is ONE WEEK before the finals. Can’t believe the show is almost over. What will I do with myself???? Any suggestions???

Debbie Allen is, once again, the guest judge.

There is only one hour tonight to do 6 solos and 6 dances so we had better get started.

Each couple (who, once again, pick names out of a hat), will dance two numbers – as well as their individual solos.

First up is Pasha and Lacey who will do a hip hop
This is choreographed by Dave Scott. In The Morning by Junior Boys
This had to be one of the best routines I’ve seen choreorgraphed. Lacey was supposed to be a mannequin and Pasha “woke” her up. They were both terrific, in sync with each other and, individually, perfection!
Judges liked it a LOT too.

SOLO: Sabra - What can I say – WOW!

Next up we had Lauren and Danny who danced a contemporary number which was choreographed by Mia Michaels who did such a great job last week. Then You Look At Me – Celine Dion – To tell you the truth, I wasn’t crazy about this but the judges went off their seats. I’m not saying that Danny and Lauren weren’t good…they were. Mary gave them a Hot Tamale scream…oh joy!!!

SOLO: Pasha – didn’t wow me this time.

Next was Neil and Sabra who danced a Jazz number choreographed by Mandy Moore. Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics – Well, this was just awesome. They played 2 executives with a table in the middle of them and each was trying to ‘outdo’ the other. It was magnificent. Loved them both; see them in the finals. By the way, judges liked it too.

SOLO: Lauren
– OK

2nd dances

Lacy/Pasha danced a Smooth Waltz which was choreographed by Hunter Johnson (a name we don’t hear too often!) – A Daisy in December?
It was a very pretty dance but I found Lacey wobbling in spots. I know I’m being picky but this IS the top 6 fighting for the finals. It was a tough dance to do and they looked very pretty dancing it. Judges, once again, loved it.

SOLO: Neil - Fabulous…

Lauren/Danny
danced a disco number which was choreographed by Donario Sanchez – Don’t Leave Me This Way – This was a great number. Lots of dance moves, jumps, catches; it had it all. Great Job guys.
Judges loved it too…..they’re lovin’ everything tonight!!!

SOLO: Lacey – Great, awesome, beautiful (loved the outfit)

Sabra/Neil danced a Paso Doble which was choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie – What a great dance. They were so together in the steps and both shined. A TRULY great Paso Doble. (oh, and by the way, never realized how sexy Neil is!!) Mary put them on the ‘bullet’ train to the finals- Oh God….the screamer!!!

SOLO: Danny – Good Job

By the way, you can log on to the official FOX site and get the tour dates for the top ten. I believe they will be at the Agannis Arena at BU on Sept. 22nd but check it out….

OK, there you have it. How the fans are going to pick from these six is anyone’s guess. They are ALL fantastic but if I had to choose 2 going home, it would be Danny and Lauren – not to say they are not talented. ALL six are; you just have to choose 2 more to leave.

We won’t know the results until next Monday because it’s FOOTBALL season (would you believe it!?) – tonight on FOX.

Have a great weekend everyone. Try and stay cool… you too, Robin Thicke!

One quick thought – THE POWER OF TEN with Drew Carey – one of the nicest hosts I’ve seen in a long time. Sincere, caring and actually sorry when you lose. First night – first contestant – a 19 year old med student – $1M!!!!! Is that terrific or what??? I hope this show catches on. People could win a lot of money. I think you can go on line and play too.
Also, a side bar, I read that Drew is a VERY generous tipper. Like would you believe $100 tip for a beer!!!! He said that when he was struggling to make it as a comedian, he worked bars and knows how hard a job it is and said if he ever made it… he wouldn’t forget these kids… and he hasn’t!
