Weekend To Do/Rumors-News 09/07/07

September 6, 2007

Hi Everyone:

WOW! I can’t believe it’s a week since I’ve last updated my ‘blog’. I tried to see it there’s anything interesting going on so, be patient with me as I do my best.

First, we’ll do — IN THEATERS

3:10 To Yuma (at first, I thought my theater was NOT going to show it and I immediately got into a big time ‘funk’ but luckily, I checked again today and it’s going to open tomorrow!!!!)

Shoot ‘Em Up – Russell’s biggest competition this weekend. With Clive Owen and Paul Giammatti.

The Hunting Party – Richard Gere, Terence Howard, Jesse Eisenberg.

TV NEWS (this is where you’ll find me rambling)

The Next Great American Band – has chosen its judges for the season
Judge: John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls (loved their music in the City of Angels); Sheila E. who is a fantastic drummer and performer who played with Prince years ago; and “Aussie” Idol, Ian Dickson. New Zealand Idol star, Dominic Bowden will host (the Ryan Seacrest part!).
Concept is the same as its sister show…AI. It will premiere on FOX,
Friday, October 19th at 8PM.

New Amsterdam - Just heard that this show has been pushed to mid season to make room for Joey’s, Singing Bee. Can’t tell you how sad I am at this moment!

Torchwood on BBC America – starts this Saturday night at 9PM. Russell Davies who revamped Dr. Who, is at the helm of this sci-fi thriller.

HBO – The long awaited new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm starts this Sunday night at 10PM. Prior to this show, there is a new show called Tell Me You Love Me – It’s about couples at different stages of their lives and how they are coping with their sexual problems. Jane Alexander is the ‘therapist’. It’s semi-documentary but gives you enough story from each couple to make you watch!!!

MTV - Sunday, VMA Awards will be telecast. The pre show starts at 8PM. Rumor has it that Britney will perform….we’ll have to wait and see.

ABC has given the greenlight to Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV to do a project called THE FIXER. Premise is about the most powerful woman in New York who discretely goes around and solves problems of New York’s rich and powerful. People behind this project include:
Brian Grazer, David Nevins and Dan Rosenberg. Could be ‘different’. When I get more info….you’ll be sure to read it here!

TNT has given the go-ahead for a pilot named, THE LEVERAGE. It is about a team of high-tech thieves who travel the world to rob from the very wealthy, take from criminals, corrupt businessmen and shady politicians.
This is one of 4 pilots that TNT is looking at. It will decide which one to choose for next March, 2008 production to join their Summer blockbusters, The Closer and Saving Grace (I smell Emmy nod for Holly Hunter for this one!)

SHOCalifornication and Weeds continue to be excellent series. BUT, I am eagerly awaiting the Sept. 30th 2nd season premieres of DEXTER at 9PM followed by BROTHERHOOD at 10PM!!!

FX: It won’t be long before the return of another favorite: NIP/TUCK
(I believe late September!!!)

The Wind That Shakes The Barley – an Irish drama/war. In the early 20th century, Ireland – 2 brothers are torn apart by anti-British rebellion. This movie has received many awards and looks very good. 127 minutes

MOVIE NEWS

30 DAYS OF NIGHT – (based on the comic book series by Steve Niles) This movie is about a small town in Alaska that goes black for a full month each year. This time, however, there is ‘evil’ lurking in the crevices of corners, etc. and they start attacking people one by one. It stars Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Danny Huston. It will premiere on October 19th.

RUMORS/NEWS

Shaq is back on the market!!! He wants to know how much the Mrs. of five years (and 4 kids) has stashed away….Good Luck to him!

George Clooney got another BFF. This one is 28 to his 46 (not that that’s
a bad thing!). Her name is Sarah Larson. She’s a former Fear Factor winner (which sounds like she’ll do just about anything…). She now works as a waitress at the Palms in Vegas. Wait a minute…didn’t Matt Damon marry a girl who worked as a waitress? That seems to have turned out pretty well for Matt. All George’s friends like this girl too so maybe she’ll stick around for awhile.

Luciano Pavarotti passed this week. He was 71 and was battling that horrible disease – cancer – that takes so many people. He had a beautiful voice and was part of the wonderul Three Tenors: Jose Carreras (a cancer survivor) and Placido Domingo. He will be sorely missed.

Good News:
Halle Berry is preggers!!!! She’s 41 so I’m sure she’ll be taking it easy. She’s ecstatic.

More Good News: Toby Maguire married his long time girlfriend this past Monday in Vegas. They have a daughter named Ruby.

Sad News: Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams (who met making Brokeback Mountain) have split up. They never married. They have a daughter named Matilda (Heath is an Aussie)

and finally…

Rumor Has It that adorable Drew Barrymore has found another BFF. His name is Justin Long and, if you watch those MAC/PC commercials, he’s the MAC guy. I thought she was going with Spike Jonze, Sophia Coppola’s exhusband? Oh well….she certainly picks some strange dudes to hook up with! They were seen at the Chateau Marmont in LA.

That’s it… I’m goin’ to the Chateau. It seems that sooner or later, everyone of these celebs shows up there… or The Ivy!

Well, I guess that’s it for now. I won’t bore you with my last weekend stuff.

I will be getting a lot of rest on Friday to prepare for Russell on Saturday.
(sorry Robin Thicke… you’re cool too).

Have a great weekend everyone. Talk to you next week.
