Weekend To Do – News/Rumors 04-11-08

April 12, 2008
Goodaye Everyone:
I’m sure some of my news is ‘old’ but, hopefully, some will perk up your interest.
New on DVD this week:
The Waterhorse
Walk Hard – The Dewey Cox Story (John C. Reilly)
Lions for Lambs (the disappointing Tom Cruise flick)
There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day-Lewis – Oscar performance)
In Theaters
Smart People (so so reviews)
Prom Night (another horror flick)
TV News:
Darren Aronofsky, director, is developing a psychological thriller with AMC.  “Riverview Towers” – It’s about a family who moves into an apartment building with paranormal activity.  Script is written by John J. McLaughlin – Patty Jenkins, who directed MONSTER, is set to direct the pilot.
Rob Bowman (from The X Files) is set to direct “CASTLE”, the ABC pilot.  It’s about a horror novelist who consults for the NYPD.  No date on when we will see the finished product.
There’s a couple of trailers out there that look pretty good.
1.  Then She Found Me out 4/25
2.  Indiana Jones, IV 5/22
3.  Deception 4/25
NEWS
Patrick Swayze is doing extremely well with an experimental drug the doctors are using to combat his pancreatic cancer.  He is 55 (boy I can’t believe he’s that old!) and also going thru the chemo too.
Well, Charlton Heston passed away.  He was 84.  It was from Alzheimer’s.  Heston studied at Notthing School and went on to win a drama scholarship to Northwestern U.  Heston got his big break in th 1952 movie, The Greatest Show On Earth (with Betty Hutton among many others!).  Then, in 1956, he became a star in The Ten Commandments (let my people go!!!).  Won an Oscar for Ben Hur which won 11 Oscars in all.  This feat has only been equalled twice since then:  1997’s Titanic and 2003’s The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
George Clooney just donated $5.6 million to the UN peacekeeping force in war torn Sudan.  This will enable a team to buy a fleet of helicopters.  He also set up a “Not On Our Watch” organization with Matt Daiman, Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle to help provide humnitarian aid in the Region.
Quite a guy!
Stanley Kamel (the psychiatrist on MONK) has passed away this week from an apparent heart attack.  Stan was 65.  (thanks for the news Lenny)
Robin Wright-Penn has called off her divorce from Sean.  Apparently they were at an Eddie Vedder concert (he did the music for Sean’s Into The Wild) and Sean got up on the stage and dedicated a song to Robin.  Musta been darn romantic!!!!
Richard Gere joined protesters in CA on Tuesday to give his support for Tibetan independance.  He is Chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet.  Richard’s been a Buddhist for many years.  He said that China is one of the greatest human rights’ abusers on the planet.  All I want to know is:  Who the heck voted for Bejing to have the Olympics this summer????
OK, I guess that’s it for this week.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.
GO RED SOX!!!!   Joanie
